Arrocane Eight was a Category 2 arrocane that affected Felden during July 1865. The eighth tropical cyclone and fourth arrocane of the 1865 Ardonia arrocane season, Eight formed over the Ardonia Ocean on July 17 and initially moved generally northward before curving toward the northeast and east. The cyclone strengthened into an arrocane while remaining over open water and eventually attained its peak intensity with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph (165 km/h) and a minimum central pressure of 974 mbar (28.76 inHg). Eight subsequently weakened considerably as it approached Felden, falling below arrocane intensity well before reaching the coast. The cyclone made landfall as a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 km/h) and a central pressure of 993 mbar (29.32 inHg). Eight later degenerated into a remnant low on July 21 and dissipated on July 22.
Despite reaching Category 2 intensity over the Ardonia Ocean, Eight caused only minor impacts on land. Approximately $50,000 in damage was recorded in a rural portion of Felden, equivalent to approximately $1.03 million in 2026 USD. No fatalities were attributed to the cyclone. Eight was consequently one of the least destructive tropical cyclones of the season despite being one of its five arrocanes.

Unknown
The system that would become Arrocane Eight originated over the Ardonia Ocean west of Felden during mid-July. The disturbance moved generally northward and gradually became better organized, developing into a tropical depression at 18:00 UTC on July 17. Eight continued northward after formation and strengthened into a tropical storm while remaining well offshore.
The cyclone subsequently began turning toward the northeast as it continued to intensify. Eight strengthened into an arrocane and gradually curved toward the east, reaching Category 2 intensity over the open Ardonia Ocean. At its peak, the cyclone attained maximum sustained winds of 105 mph (165 km/h) and a minimum central pressure of 974 mbar (28.76 inHg).
Following its peak, Eight began a sustained weakening trend while moving generally eastward toward Felden. The cyclone weakened below Category 2 intensity and subsequently fell below arrocane intensity well before reaching the coast. By the time Eight approached Felden, its maximum sustained winds had decreased to tropical storm strength.
Eight made its only landfall in Felden with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 km/h) and a central pressure of 993 mbar (29.32 inHg), considerably weaker than its peak intensity over the Ardonia Ocean. The cyclone continued inland while weakening and eventually degenerated into a remnant low at 12:00 UTC on July 21. The remnant circulation persisted into the following day before dissipating on July 22.
Preparations and impact
There are no known records of significant preparations being undertaken in advance of Arrocane Eight. The cyclone occurred 87 years before the establishment of the National Arrocane Center (NAC) and Ardonia Meteorological Organization (AMO) in 1952, and consequently no modern tropical cyclone watches or warnings were issued for Felden. Due to the limited historical record, it is unknown whether any local preparations were undertaken before the cyclone reached the coast.
Despite having reached Category 2 intensity over the Ardonia Ocean, Eight weakened substantially before reaching land and made landfall in Felden as a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 km/h) and a central pressure of 993 mbar (29.32 inHg). Recorded impacts were limited to a rural portion of Felden, where approximately $50,000 in damage occurred in 1865 USD, equivalent to approximately $1.03 million in 2026 USD. No fatalities were attributed to the cyclone.
Eight consequently caused substantially fewer impacts than the other arrocanes of the 1865 Ardonia arrocane season. No additional monetary losses or fatalities are documented elsewhere along the cyclone's path.
