Despite reaching a peak intensity of only 50 mph, Otto caused extensive flooding and demonstrates that a cyclone's economic impact is not necessarily proportional to its maximum intensity.

The earliest known tropical cyclone in the Ardonia basin to cause at least $1 billion in damage was Arrocane Six in 1865, which caused approximately $1.035 billion in damage. Two additional storms during the season exceeded the threshold: the 1865 Trinity Islands arrocane, which caused $5.87 billion in damage, and the 1865 Port Kazu arrocane, which caused approximately $10.213 billion.
