List of retired Ardonia arrocane names
This is a cumulative list of previously used arrocane names that have been permanently removed from reuse in Ardonia. Through the end of the 2020 season, 13 storm names had been retired.
The naming of tropical cyclones in Ardonia uses six alphabetic lists of names, with one list used each year. This normally results in each list being reused every six years. However, in the case of a particularly deadly or damaging arrocane, the storm's name may be retired and a replacement beginning with the same letter selected to take its place.
The first names to be retired in the current record were those of eight arrocanes from the 2019 season: Arlene, Camille, Florence, Katrina, Milton, Rita, Victor, and Wilma. Five additional names—Bob, Gilbert, Kirk, Lee, and Otto—were retired following the 2020 season. The record for the greatest number of names retired following a single season is eight, set in 2019.
Among retired arrocanes through 2020, Milton was the most intense, attaining maximum sustained winds of 200 mph (325 km/h) and a minimum central pressure of 865 mbar (25.54 inHg). Lee was the deadliest retired arrocane, causing 4,026 fatalities, while Arlene was the costliest, causing $158 billion in damage. Collectively, the 13 retired arrocanes caused 7,221 deaths and approximately $725.025 billion in damage.
History
Ardonia tropical cyclones are named from a set of six rotating alphabetical lists. A different list is used for each season, with the same list normally returning every six years. When the name of a particularly destructive or deadly tropical cyclone is retired, it is permanently removed from the rotation and replaced with another name beginning with the same letter.
The earliest retirements in the current record followed the 2019 Ardonia arrocane season, when eight names were removed from future use. The storms whose names were retired varied considerably in intensity, ranging from Camille, which peaked as a Category 2 arrocane, to Milton, which reached Category 5 intensity with winds of 200 mph (325 km/h) and a minimum pressure of 865 mbar (25.54 inHg). The eight retired storms were collectively responsible for 2,205 deaths and $439.95 billion in damage.
Five additional names were retired following the 2020 Ardonia arrocane season. These included four major arrocanes—Bob, Gilbert, Kirk, and Lee—as well as Tropical Storm Otto. The retirement of Otto demonstrated that a storm did not need to attain arrocane intensity for its name to be removed from reuse; despite peaking with winds of only 50 mph (80 km/h), Otto caused 202 deaths and $117.15 billion in damage. The five retired storms of 2020 collectively caused 5,016 deaths and approximately $285.075 billion in damage.

Eight names were retired following the 2019 season, the greatest number retired from any single Ardonia arrocane season through 2020. Together, the eight systems caused $439.95 billion in damage and 2,205 fatalities. Arlene was both the costliest and deadliest of the group, causing $158 billion in damage and 1,379 deaths. Milton was the most intense, reaching maximum sustained winds of 200 mph (325 km/h) and a minimum central pressure of 865 mbar (25.54 inHg), surpassing the intensity records previously established by Arlene earlier in the season.

Five names were retired following the 2020 season. Collectively, Bob, Gilbert, Kirk, Lee, and Otto caused approximately $285.075 billion in damage and 5,016 fatalities. Gilbert was the most intense of the five, reaching Category 5 intensity with maximum sustained winds of 195 mph (315 km/h) and a minimum pressure of 880 mbar (25.99 inHg). Its $129.251 billion damage total also made it the costliest retired storm of the season. Lee was by far the deadliest, causing 4,026 deaths, while Otto was notable for being retired despite never attaining arrocane intensity.
